President Corazon Aquino indeed made a very significant role in Philippine HISTORY.

with the so called CORY MAJIC, she played a huge role in uniting filipinos and made the HISTORICAL People Power, and changed our Nation.

she brought back Democracy in the Philippines.

As a President, she served our country with purity and until her last.

so It is just right to call her a HERO… as the mother of DEMOCRACY, isn’t it just right to say that she deserves to be in PHILIPPINE MONEY?

To those who wants to support this Petition, please COMMENT BACK.

Juan Dela Cruz; “Binbago KHO ang aking Kultura”
by: Leonard John D. Caoile, RN

“By April 28, the new strain was confirmed to have spread to Spain, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Israel, and the virus was suspected in many other nations, including South Korea and Austria, with a total in the aggregate of over 3,000 candidate cases, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to change its pandemic alert phase to “Phase 5″ according to wikipedia..

WHO Alert Phases

Phase 1 No animal influenza virus circulating among animals have been reported to cause infection in humans.
Phase 2 An animal influenza virus circulating in domesticated or wild animals is known to have caused infection in humans and is therefore considered a specific potential pandemic threat.
Phase 3 An animal or human-animal influenza reassortant virus has caused sporadic cases or small clusters of disease in people, but has not resulted in human-to-human transmission sufficient to sustain community-level outbreaks.
Phase 4 Human to human transmission of an animal or human-animal influenza reassortant virus able to sustain community-level outbreaks has been verified.
Phase 5 The same identified virus has caused sustained community level outbreaks in two or more countries in one WHO region.
Phase 6 In addition to the criteria defined in Phase 5, the same virus has caused sustained community level outbreaks in at least one another country in another WHO region.
Post peak period Levels of pandemic influenza in most countries with adequate surveillance have dropped below peak levels.
Post pandemic period Levels of influenza activity have returned to the levels seen for seasonal influenza in most countries with adequate surveillance.

Swine Flu
(Swine Influenza A (H1N1) Virus)

Swine flu is a respiratory illness of pigs caused by infection with swine influenza A virus (SIV) that can occasionally affect humans.

Signs and Symptoms
+ Symptoms of swine flu is similar to that of those other influenza virus.
+ chills, cough, sour throat, fatigue
+ headache, patient may also be dyspnic (difficulty of breathing)
+ sometimes nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting may also occur.

Infection Period
>>Persons with swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection should be considered potentially contagious for up to 7 days following illness onset.
>>Persons who continue to be ill longer than 7 days after illness onset should be considered potentially contagious until symptoms have resolved.
>> Children, especially younger children, might potentially be contagious for longer periods.
>>The duration of infectiousness might vary by swine influenza A (H1N1) virus strain. Non-hospitalized ill persons who are a confirmed or suspected case of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection are recommended to stay at home (voluntary isolation) for at least the first 7 days after illness onset except to seek medical care.

Prevention

Recommendations for public health personnel

For interviews of healthy individuals (i.e. without a current respiratory illness), including close contacts of cases of confirmed swine influenza virus infection, no personal protective equipment or antiviral chemoprophylaxis is needed. See section on antiviral chemoprophylaxis for further guidance.

For interviews of an ill, suspected or confirmed swine influenza A virus case, the following is recommended:

    * Keep a distance of at least 6 feet from the ill person; or

    * Personal protective equipment: fit-tested N95 respirator [if unavailable, wear a medical (surgical mask)].

For collecting respiratory specimens from an ill confirmed or suspected swine influenza A virus case, the following is recommended:

    * Personal protective equipment: fit-tested disposable N95 respirator [if unavailable, wear a medical (surgical mask)], disposable gloves, gown, and goggles.

    * When completed, place all PPE in a biohazard bag for appropriate disposal.

    * Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand gel.

Will a face mask protect me from getting the swine flu, and are there differences in face masks?

Information on the effectiveness of facemasks and respirators for the control of influenza in community settings is extremely limited. Thus, it is difficult to assess their potential effectiveness in controlling swine influenza A (H1N1) virus transmission in these settings. In the absence of clear scientific data, the interim recommendations below have been developed on the basis of public health judgment and the historical use of facemasks and respirators in other settings.

as for me, here are some preventions that i can suggest..

1. Personal Hygiene as always
+ frequent hand washing, Alcohol 70% solution may Help, but the best way is Handwashing.
+ daily bath if possible after going out or being exposed to crowded places.
2. Avoiding crowded places.
3. Observe proper cough manners
+ covering your mouth when coughing, and washing hands after you cough if possible.
4. if returning from a trip, observe for signs of flu mentioned above specially 7 days of returning from trip.
5. Eat properly handled foods, or proper preparation of foods.
6. Consult your nearest health workers for more information…

I wont be posting treatments for Swine Flu here, for I believe and strongly suggests that everyone should consult a doctor and avoid self medication.

Thanks for Reading

I’ve heard from the news just tonight about this issue and it is really allarming. An article where he slammed filipinos for our stand on South China Sea Issue..ridiculing the Philippines by publicly admitting his racist but ignorant act of bigotry on his Filipina domestic helper.

Before Chip Tsao turn this issue into Filipinos vs Chinese conflict, may i remind everyone that this battle is not between All Filipinos vs Chinese, It’s all about Filipinos vs CHEAP Tsao aka Chip Tsao fo HK Magazine.

Let’s not act as immature as Mr. Chip Tsao, for we all know we weren’t fed by our mother with milk containing Melanin.

We are not like Tsao who chewed alot of lead-paint-coated toys made from thier low quality factories.

I was thinking of other reasons why a Creature like CHEAP Tsao have this level of thinking, maybe because he was exposed with the Radio Active Materials which was found potentially deadly radioactive material that went missing from a factory earlier this week which was reported by China’s state press. Perhaps Tsao was the one who is behind this issue.

« ‘A nation of servants’

The war at home by Chip Tsao HK Magazine

The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen on board. We can live with that—Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That’s no big problem—we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku, let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke. But hold on—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: there are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as $3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter. As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell every one of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China. Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows 16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her government, and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings. Oh yes. The government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East. They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout “China, Madam/Sir” loudly whenever they hear the word “Spratly.” They say the indoctrination is working as wonderfully as when we used to shout, “Long live Chairman Mao!” at the sight of a portrait of our Great Leader during the Cultural Revolution. I’m not sure if that’s going a bit too far, at least for the time being.

Tobacco is considered addicting because it contains the chemical nicotine. Sniffing and chewing tobacco originated in North America and Europe. It was Christopher Columbus who introduced tobacco into Europe. It then became very popular with the Portugese, Spanish, French, British, and Scandinavians.

Smoking may be even more dangerous now than 30 years ago because the lower levels of tar and nicotine in cigarette brands make smokers inhale more deeply. In the US . . . .

Withdrawal is a difficult process. About 70% of smokers want to quit. In one study of women smokers who wanted to quit, 80% of them were unable to. This is because nicotine increases the activity of dopamine, a chemical in the brain that elicits pleasurable sensations. Even after years of non-smoking, about 20% of ex-smokers still have occasional cravings for cigarettes.

Other signs and symptoms include insomnia and depression, sweating, constipation and diarrhea.

When is the best time to quit smoking?

The sooner a smoker quits smoking, the better. It is never too late to quit. No one is too old too quit. Because the first two weeks are critical success, smokers should seek all the help they can during this period.

Here is a tip to help smoker decide when to quit smoking:

A smoker should choose a particular date to quit when his level of stress is lowest.

Example: Women should not start during the premenstrual period when stress is high.

What are ways to quit smoking?

Scheduled reduction – the process of slowly reducing the number of cigarettes per day until one has stopped completely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) – a smoker who stops smoking is given small amounts of nicotine over a period of six weeks or more to reduce withdrawal signs. The nicotine is given either as chewing gum. patch, nasal spray or cigarette-like inhaler. Consult your physician about NRT.

Totally quitting smoking without any outside help.

What should smokers do while they are quitting?

Exercise. Take deep breaths, dance, run, wall jump up and down, stretch.

Drink plenty of water and eat fruits and vegetables. Take plenty of vitamins and minerals. Carrots, apples, singkamas, chewing gum, and candies are good munching foods to replace the feel of a cigarette in the mouth.

Take naps, warm baths or showers during intensive cravings to smoke.

Tell friends and family that you have stopped smoking. This will make you feel embarrassed when they catch you smoking.

Change activities or habits that are associated with smoking. For instance, find other ways to finish a meal without smoking. Go out for a walk, go to a place where smoking is prohibited, doodle instead of smoking while talking on the phone.

Advice to smokers:

While is was once a fad to smoke, it has now become dangerous to health. Smoking is abnormal. It is very addicting and very hard to stop. Smoking not only affects other people who inhaled second-hand smoke. Smoking contributes significantly to diseases that shortens life and is leading cause of death like heart attack, stroke, respiratory diseases which make smokers “pulmonary cripples” as in asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, recurrent infections, and cancer.

DA AND DOH ANNOUNCE COMPLETE RESULTS OF TESTS ON HUMAN AND PIG SAMPLES FOR ERV; QUARANTINE LIFTED IN PANGASINAN FARM
Press Release/February 23, 2009

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Health (DOH) today announced the complete test results done by the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) and then the US Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) on pig and human samples collected since the start of the Ebola Reston investigation.

The Joint FAO/OIE/WHO Mission, with its national counterparts, collected pig blood and tissue samples from two affected farms currently under quarantine.

Of 160 pig blood samples that were positive for antibodies, 133 came from Bulacan and 27 from Pangasinan as reported by RITM. Those from Bulacan were traced to pigs at different age groups while those in Pangasinan were found in sows and just one piglet.

“This means that there is on going viral transmission in Bulacan but past infection with recovery was the case in Pangasinan,” DA Secretary Arthur Yap said, noting that a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to confirm the presence of the virus was done by the US CDC to confirm ongoing transmission.

Of the 19 pigs with tissue samples positive for ERV by real-time RT-PCR, none came from Pangasinan since all were traced to Bulacan. This now corroborates the earlier tests done by RITM that Bulacan has ongoing viral transmission.

“Up to the present, none of the pigs that were sampled showed signs of any illness during the collection of the samples. As a precautionary measure, depopulation will be carried out in the Bulacan farm. Quarantine can now be lifted in the Pangasinan farm where the transmission appears contained,” DA Secretary Yap said.

Experts explained that depopulation is done to prevent further spread of the Ebola Reston within and outside the farm. The Joint Mission recommended this management imperative considering that there was possible pig-to human transmission and ERV comes from the Ebola family of viruses known to be highly pathogenic to humans. The Reston virus, however remains to be the only strain not to cause significant illness in humans.

Depopulation of pigs in the Bulacan farm will be done immediately following current OIE procedures that ensure protection of animal welfare (that is, humane killing), operator safety (to minimize human exposure) and bio-security (to curtail wider spread). Preparations are underway to expedite the depopulation. National and local government agencies with International Observers will participate to implement depopulation procedures. Government has arranged a fair compensation for the Bulacan farm to ease compliance with depopulation and to cushion economic losses including livelihood of affected farmers.

The RITM and US CDC tested about 147 human samples for Ebola Reston Antigens and Antibodies (either IgG or IgM). These came from the affected farms (Bulacan and Pangasinan) and from slaughterhouses in Pangasinan and Cabanatuan. Of these, six human blood samples were found to be positive for IgG antibodies.

“The additional positive human sample (five were previously reported) was traced to a slaughterhouse worker in Cabanatuan. This worker is male and was not sick during visits by the investigation team. He does not recall any direct contact with sick pigs but remembers having flu-like illness himself in the past 12 months. There is no evidence however that the flu-like symptoms can be attributed to ERV infection,” DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III said.

Experts said that no other worker of 25 who were tested from the same slaughterhouse in Cabanatuan were positive for Ebola Reston antibodies and none of those who were revisited (8) recalled getting sick in the past 12 months or were sick during visits of the investigating team.

“To date, all close contacts of humans with positive antibodies who were tested have remained antibody-free signifying absence of illness in affected humans that can lead to possible human-to-human transmission. Ebola Reston poses a low risk to human health at this time.” DOH Secretary Duque III said.

The health chief said that as a general precaution, farm workers at the Bulacan farm, shall undertake Self-Monitoring Protocol at home to monitor presence of fever up to 21 days from date of last presence in the farm. This will be done without restricting their movements.

“Until depopulation is carried out, some of the workers can still handle pigs in the farm using of course, proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so that routine animal husbandry can be maintained,” DOH Secretary Duque said.

The DOH reiterates the Sanitation Code of the Philippines that all workers in farms and slaughterhouses should wear PPE (gloves, mask, boots, apron).

Concerned agencies and partners will continue to rigorously implement the same four lines of defense: 1) reporting all unusual occurrence of herds with sick or dying pigs; 2) cautious handling and disposal of sick or dying pigs including that of raw meat, blood and other bodily secretions and practice of proper hand washing; 3) prohibiting and confiscating double dead meat that will enter the food chain; and 4) cooking pork thoroughly with adequate heat.

“Pork is still safe to eat when properly handled and cooked adequately (no pink parts and juices run clear). Consumers are advised to source meat that has the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) seal,” DOH Secretary Duque said.

The DA will expand surveillance to other farms within confined radius of affected farms and in other areas as well, where past or current outbreaks were/are reported.

The DOH will carry out surveillance in those farms or areas where Ebola Reston will be detected. Both the DA and DOH together with international and domestic agencies and partners, will carry out further scientific studies to determine the source of Ebola Reston in pigs, characterize pig to pig and pig to human transmission and also infection or possible illness in pigs and humans.

Bottle feeding in the US has become the social norm. Today more women are working outside the home and forumla feeding seems to be faster and more flexible, and a hostility towards breastfeeding has been adapted. Those who choose to breast feed are looked down upon, and more often than not, breast feeding in public is not an option for them. Although it is seldom, women are even seen in the news for causing negative reaction to breastfeeding in public. But why?

The breast has become sexual symbol. People view the breast as erotic and women and are usually viewed through the neverending desire of men. This has implanted the idea that women’s breasts exist soley for the purpose of pleasure to others, and not for the purpose of providing nurishment to their young. When people see a women breastfeeding, their reaction is usually ackwardness and distaste because our society has accepted the idea that the breast is sexual and not reproductive.

This trend in not using the female breast as infant nourishment needs to be reversed. It has been thought that formula is nutritionally equal to breast milk and has been endorsed by the Pediatric community sence the 1950′s, but this is not the case. There are several reasons why breast milk is healthier. Breastmilk contains over four-hundred nutrients that cannot be recreated in a laboratory. These nutrients are essential to the healthy production and growth of babies. Infact, the caloric density, protein, carbohydrates, and fat in breastmilk changes with the growth of the baby in order to meet the nutritional needs of the baby, unlike formula. Breastmilk is also uncontaminated by bacteria and is easier for the infant’s stomach to digest. Infants who have been breast fed for at least eight months have reduced risks for:

childhood cancers

diarrheal diseases

respiratory illness

ear infections

bacterial infections

diabetes

infant botulism

Crohn’s disease

ulceratius colitis

obesity

SIDS

cavities

“Breast is best,” not only because it is healthier for the baby but also because it has benefits for the mother as well. Nursing mothers enjoy a reduced risk for both breast and ovarian cancer, osteoporosis, and weight loss. It has also been proven that mothers who breastfeed have an increase in confidence and ability in caring for their infant.

Other benefits of breastfeeding include convience and cost. Unlike formula, breastmilk is free! Parents who choose to formula feed their child spend an average of Php. 10,000 per year, per baby on formula alone, not including the cost of bottles. Breastfeeding also decreases production of hazardous waste such as plastic bottles and rubber nipples, and it lowers health insurance premiums for everyone due to healthier babies.

Many women choose not to brestfeed because they say it hurts or their baby is not eating enough. The truth is that the breast naturally creates more than enough for the size of the infant’s stomach. Most problems arise becuase mothers have not been taught how to show their babies how to latch on correctly. When the baby is latched on correctly, the nipple is usually far back in the infant’s mounth and should cause no pain. When breastfeeding it is important that the infant not have any other fluids other than breastmilk, even water. Other fluids, objects like pacifiers, and even just one bottle of formula can lead to the “distraction” of the infant from breastfeeding and make it harder for the mother and the infant to breastfeed.

In some cases women are not able to breastfeed. This may be a result of trauma to the milk ducts, or hormonal deficiency and/or other medical reasons. In these cases it is reccommended that mothers resort to donor milk rather than formula, this way their baby is still recieving the benefits of breastmilk. This is an option that many people do not know about. Many are hesitant to use donor milk, however the reality is that donor milk is actually more regulated than blood. It is also thought that Milk Banks are a new idea, but the truth is that the first milk bank was opened in 1938, only two years after the first blood bank was opened.

Women may also choose not to breastfeed for personal reasons including time constraints, embarassment, sexual hang-ups and fears, nervousness, and family influence, or the decision is made by their doctor. If you are able to, PLEASE breastfeed or look into donor milk! It is better for you and your baby!

Helpful Breastfeeding Tips:

restrain from using formula

no pacifiers or other liquids for at least 3 weeks, or until the baby has a good handle on breastfeeding

newborns should be fed every three hours

the size, shape, color, placement of breast does not influence the ability of the breast to create the appropriate amount of breastmilk for the infant’s stomach

recognize your baby’s early hunger cues

Early Signs of Hunger:

soft sounds calling to mother

rooting

sucking on hands or lip

hand to mouth

head bobbing

Later Signs of Hunger:

Legs moving in bicycle motion

Tense with clenched fists

Very Late Signs of Hunger:

Crying
